Tour 2 - Berlin and the Wall

Wednesday, September 22nd 2010
Departure: 6:00 p.m. / Robert-Koch-Platz, corner Hannoversche Straße

Between the end of World War II and the beginning of the 1990s, the history of Berlin was dominated by the presence of the four victors of the War and the Wall, dividing East and West Berlin. This tour leads visitors behind the scenes of the former East Berlin and focuses on the once divided city.
Experience the "East Side Gallery", the last authentic pieces of the Wall which separated the East from the West, along the Spree River, the longest open-air gallery in the world and the unique "Karl-Marx-Avenue".
The tour continues to the Wall Museum in the "Haus am Checkpoint Charlie". From August 1961 to October 1990, Checkpoint Charlie was the border crossing point for diplomats, allied military and foreigners (neither Germans, nor Berliners were allowed to pass through). During the construction of the Wall in August 1961, Checkpoint Charlie was the famous place where American and Soviet tanks had their stand off - with motors running and guns loaded. The famous and emotionally moving museum houses memorabilia from the history of the Wall, as well as photographs and stories of successful and unsuccessful escapes.
The tour will end at the famous Alexanderplatz with the possibility to dine with a breathtaking view from the restaurant on top of the TV tower "Berliner Fernsehturm" which is, together with the Brandenburg Gate, one of the symbols of the reunited city.

Price: 48,00 € (bus tour only incl. Wall Museum Haus am Checkpoint Charlie / duration 2 hours)
Price: 98,00 € (bus tour incl. Wall Museum Haus am Checkpoint Charlie, 3 course menu, excl. beverages)

Tour 3 - Film Set Berlin

Thursday, September 23rd 2010
Departure: 5:30 p.m. / Robert-Koch-Platz, corner Hannoversche Straße

The Berlinale (Berlin International Film Festival) is not the city's only connection to the film industry; in fact, there is a strong bond throughout the rest of the year as well. Berlin is Germany's most popular film set and even Hollywood has also taken notice and appreciates the city's unique and valuable settings.
En route on a Berlin sightseeing tour of a special kind, you will visit film sets and locations in the footprints of the most popular Berlin movies. On board the video bus, you will pass by the real places of today's life - while at the same time the corresponding scenes of the movie will be displayed on screen.
Lola of "Run Lola Run" escapes from the bank, with a bundle of money under her arm - you look out the window and find yourself passing that very building, that very door that she just escaped from... This and a number of other funny, adventurous, fascinating or captivating scenes along the way will offer a very unusual but nonetheless exciting Berlin sightseeing tour.
The tour will end at the "Museum für Film & Fernsehen" (Film and Television Museum) at Potsdamer Platz, where you will find further documentation and interesting facts about the role of Berlin in the film industry.
In order to conclude this very special tour throughout Berlin, you will have the opportunity to indulge yourself in typical regional Berlin food in a very popular and cosy restaurant close by.

Price: 55,00 € (bus tour only incl. Museum für Film & Fernsehen / duration 2,5 hours)
Price: 99,00 € (bus tour incl. Museum für Film & Fernsehen, 3 course menu, excl. beverages)

Tour 4 - Modern Architecture in Berlin - Walking Tour

Thursday, September 23rd 2010
Departure: 5:30 p.m. / Entry Langenbeck-Virchow-Haus

Berlin is always on the move - there is no other European city, changing its facade as rapidly and quickly as Berlin. During this tour through Berlin's centre you will have the opportunity to learn more about impressive and interesting buildings, their background and details.
Experience the remarkable architecture of the new Berlin main train station with its sweeping glass construction over five floors. What architect Meinhard von Gerkan designed is not only Europe's newest and largest train crossing station but also accommodates a spacious shopping mall.
Across the river Spree, the tour continues to the so-called "Regierungsviertel" - newly-built and recently renovated buildings form the political centre of Germany, located next to the renovated "Reichstag" topped with an iconic glass dome envisioned by Norman Foster. Only a few steps away, you will pass the most popular landmark of the city, the Brandenburg Gate - the symbol of the reunified city. Through the gate and onto Pariser Platz are found the American Embassy, the "Akademie der Künste" with a glass facade symbolically placed in front of the surviving remains from the original building and the DZ Bank which architect Gehry declares as the "best thing he did".
Modern and futuristic is the style throughout the Potsdamer Platz. Build on former "no man's land" from the time of the Berlin Wall, this area offers impressive and extravagant architecture from some of today's most famous architects.
There will be the opportunity to have dinner "under the roof" of the shiny Sony Center.

Price: 30,00 € (walking tour only / duration 3 hours)
Price: 62,00 € (walking tour incl. 3 course menu, excl. beverages)
